2023: A year of momentum for Careology

December 12, 2023

As 2023 comes to a close, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on the year we have had at Careology and share what we’re looking forward to in 2024.

But first, a reminder of the problem we’re working to solve.

With the cancer treatment backlog growing and new predictions that annual rates of diagnoses will continue rising, the global challenges faced by the cancer care sector are substantial. On the ground, workforce capacity constraints and rising costs of treatment are impacting the quality of care able to be delivered.

There is no silver bullet to solve these problems. Cancer care is an extremely complex pathway and there is often a huge disconnect between all the players involved. Traditionally underserved by digital, healthcare teams struggle to extend their care outside the four walls of the hospital. This leaves patients to make clinical judgement calls at home where they face some of their treatment’s most gruelling side effects.

The key to what we do is connectivity. Through Careology’s patient-facing app, those undergoing treatment are connected to both their clinical teams and caregivers, empowering them to self-manage aspects of their treatment and giving clinicians insight into their health status - both physically and mentally - at any given time, beyond the hospital’s four walls.

By increasing the potential for patients to self-serve, improving clinical workflows and making remote monitoring possible, we help to free up workforce capacity while reducing costs, improving patient and clinician experience, and optimising health outcomes.

Built to scale

2023 was all about putting the operational fundamentals in place to make us primed to scale across our key channels of NHS and private care, private medical insurance and pharmaceutical patient support programmes. To streamline this, we created a playbook for deployments with new clients, reducing the time it takes to roll out from weeks down to a matter of days and cutting patient onboarding time by 34%.

We’ve spent time getting our platform ready for new markets as we continue to grow internationally, which now includes multiple language accessibility. We’ve worked with Macmillan Cancer Support to offer patients a direct support line and content all housed within our intuitive patient app.

As we continued to expand our client base, we have seen the business grow six times over with patient engagement as high as 70% and Careology employed as an integral part of the treatment pathway.

Looking ahead

We are excited to deliver our 2024 plan and support healthcare teams across the globe. We will continue to introduce powerful new capabilities, extending Careology’s broad reach across more elements of the cancer pathway, leveraging enhanced AI functionality and ensuring interoperability with other healthcare platforms. It’s set to be another exciting year for the Careology platform.

A big thank you!

Digital cancer care has only begun to scratch the surface of the ways it can help those living and dealing with cancer, and I am encouraged by the exciting new partners Careology will be working with in 2024 across the UK and US.

It goes without saying that we couldn’t do any of this without our Careology team members around the globe who work tirelessly to create more Up Days for those living and dealing with cancer. We also want to say another thank you to our clients - which include leading organisations who we are proud to support as they continue to transform and improve the way cancer care is delivered around the world.

All that’s left to say is - Happy Holidays and see you in 2024!
