2022: A groundbreaking year for Careology

December 21, 2022

As we reach the end of 2022, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on the year we have had at Careology and share what I’m excited about for 2023.

When my wife was diagnosed with cancer, it became very clear to me how underserved the cancer care space was from a digital perspective. I wanted to create a platform that better equipped and seamlessly connected patients, caregivers and healthcare teams. I’m very proud to say that this year has seen us truly join the dots and connect all the key players in the cancer pathway - in a way that is both empowering for the patient and has real clinical rigour.

Bringing digital transformation to the health sector, and specifically, the cancer care space is extremely complex. In order to add value, it is critical that the patient’s needs are put right at the centre of how our technology is developed. Since launching in 2018, we essentially spent the first two years of our existence in research and development mode, speaking non-stop to patients and clinical teams about the problems they faced, and developing our technology collaboratively with our pilot partners.

This year it became clear that this hard work was all worth it. We are now trusted by, and working in partnership with, leading organisations across the care provider and medical insurance sectors including Guy’s & St Thomas’, Nuffield Health, LloydsPharmacy Clinical Homecare,  Aviva and RedArc. We are also extremely proud to be working with Macmillan Cancer Support, where we are able to share their trusted information in a personalised way through a new interface in our patient-facing app. With the relationships we already have in place, Careology will be supporting over 20,000 patients plus their caregivers and clinical teams by the end of 2023.

We are seeing a fundamental shift in the way healthcare is being delivered. Prior to the Covid-19 pandemic, only 10 to 15% of NHS consultations were conducted virtually. Today, even the most conservative clinician understands the critical role that technology has to play in overcoming the significant challenges that cancer services are facing around the world. The clinical care side of our platform, Careology Professional, means healthcare teams can extend their reach beyond the four walls of the hospital and understand how patients are 24/7, whilst enabling critical operational and efficiency gains in the system

And we are being recognised for our work, having received various accolades over the course of the year. Just last month an independent clinical whitepaper reviewed over 400 cancer-related apps and Careology came out as number one. This month, we were listed in the 2022 ‘Digital Health 150’, which showcases the most promising digital health companies in the world.

We have enormous momentum behind us and I’m so excited about what 2023 will bring. Next year will see us continue to scale in the UK and take what we have learned to other markets; we will soon go live in both Canada and the US.

A big thank you to the whole Careology team, for all your hard work this year and for caring deeply about delivering on our purpose: to create more up-days for everyone living and dealing with cancer. And a huge thank you to all our partners - we are very proud to be supporting you in transforming traditional cancer and overcoming today's significant challenges with our patient-first digital solutions.

About Careology

Careology is building the world’s leading digital cancer care platform. By equipping and seamlessly connecting patients, caregivers and healthcare teams in a complex pathway, our mission is to use technology to transform traditional cancer care and change everyone’s cancer story for the better. Today the platform allows patients to manage and navigate all aspects of treatment from their device, while leveraging critical data on symptoms, medications, side effects and more, to deliver insight and analysis to clinical teams through a ‘virtual ward’. By increasing the potential for patients to self-serve, improving workflows, making 24/7 monitoring possible and putting a unique data set to work, we are helping to relieve pressure on health systems, while reducing costs, improving patient and clinician experience, and optimising health outcomes.
